Position Title: Women Empowerment Officer.

Position Reports to: GBV Capacity Building Coordinator.

Field Site: Tripoli.

Date Needed: 1st, March 2020.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

Women Empowerment Officer (WEO) is responsible for planning and implementing the women and girls’ empowerment activities in WGSS. Under the direct supervision of the Women Empowerment Manager and with the close technical guidance of GBV Manager, the tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Mobilize internally displaced women and girls in the camp and engage them in the activities conducted at WGSS and other areas in the camp.
  • Plan and organize awareness sessions and soft−skill trainings at WGSS and at other places (schools and mosques) in the camp in collaboration with community members, community groups, and any other stakeholder presents in the field when needed.
  • Work closely with medical and mental health teams and ensure their support in facilitating the related and relevant sessions.
  • Coordinate with protection, child protection, disability and education actors to ensure their support when needed.
  • Provide group psychosocial support to women and girls.
  • Ensure all logistic aspects for the conduct of the awareness sessions, recreational activities and soft−skill trainings with WGSS Site Officer.
  • Conduct outreach activities and home−based information sessions/activities for those who cannot come to the center.
  • Establish and support community−based groups − women committee and adolescent girls’ committee and support them for conducting outreach activities (community meetings, awareness campaigns, need assessments).
  • Facilitate sessions focused on building awareness on different themes related to community wellbeing, safety planning, and deliver key messages on GBV.
  • Plan and identify materials and any kind of support required for every intervention on weekly basis.
  • Identify GBV cases through regular contacts and visits in the community and areas of intervention and refer them to GBV caseworkers, medical team and psychiatrist when and if needed.
  • Ensure that the beneficiaries who need specific medical or mental health care are referred to the relevant services.
  • Participate in conducting surveys, safety audits, and service mapping with women and girls committee members.
  • Assist Women Empowerment Manager and GBV Manager for developing new curriculums, community training methodologies, activity contents, and impact assessment tools.
  • Review and adjust the data collection tools to make sure the relevant, accurate and up−to−date information is always presented.
  • Suggest modifications of sessions and exercises in order to adapt to changes occurring in the work environment, based on the feedback of the beneficiaries.
  • Deliver daily awareness sessions on GBV issues such as (sexual and reproductive health, early marriage, and protection related issues to women and girls) and on services available at and through WGSS.
  • Work closely with MHPSS Team to deliver intergenerational activities and assist them for specific group activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field − psychology, sociology, social work, social sciences, public health, or education.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Former experience in implementing community based protection activities with vulnerable groups in emergency/conflict or post-conflict settings is and advantage.
  • Excellent interactive training and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of working with children and adults.
  • Familiarity with GBV programming, Women’s Empowerment and protection programming.
  • Commitment to promote women and girls’ rights and stop GBV.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to protection, GBV issues, including application of the principle of confidentiality.
  • Strict adherence to humanitarian and Protection and GBV Guiding principles and standards, as well as organizational policies including Code of Conduct.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word.
  • Experience in regular report writing.
  • Proven experience teaching or facilitating trainings.
  • Extremely strong communication skills, with good understanding of relevant cross−cultural and sensitive issues and ability to gain trust and build relationships with new communities.
  • Strong problem−solving and innovation to address gaps and challenges.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to produce timely and high quality of work.
  • Demonstrated high level of flexibility, responsiveness, and reliability.
  • Ability to work under pressure and strong time management skills to meet both short−term and long−term objectives.

Language Skills:

  • High standard of spoken and written Arabic and English is essential.
