The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The UN Volunteers Programme Field Unit (UNV FU) for the Maghreb has been established in early August 2018 in Tunis, Tunisia. Its creation was part of the efforts engaged by UNV at the global level, aiming to strengthen UNV’s institutional effectiveness and make it fit for purpose in the broader perspective of achieving UNV’s Strategic Plan 2018-2021 outcomes and accelerating 2030 Agenda implementation through tailored solutions offered to UN member states and to RCs/UNCTs in the Arab sub-region. The FU creation is also part of UNV’s strategic shift thought to adapt the Programme architecture to the requirements of the Secretary-General’s reform agenda. In this framework, the UNV Programme is positioned as the UN leader for the provision of flexible, simplified volunteer solutions and volunteer advisory services.
