The ICRC Delegation in Libya seeks to fill the following position:
Agronomist Field Officer
The position is based in Misrata, Libya
The Agronomist Field Officer based in Misrata helps to assess, implement, and monitor the agriculture, livestock, and fishing livelihoods support programmes in Libya under the direct supervision of the ICRC Agronomist. S/he participates in the development and adjustment of programme objectives in her/his field of expertise. S/he also supports other Economic Security (EcoSec) programmes as required.
S/he manages the implementation of the planned agricultural, livestock, and fishery activities with the help of EcoSec Delegates in the field and under the supervision of the ICRC Agronomist.
As the focal point of contact for the interlocutors in the agriculture sector, s/he maintains relationships and helps coordinate with FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture.
S/he is also required to propose pilot projects, new alternatives enhancing the food production at the community level and national level.
S/he ensures that institutional reports, assessments, monitoring and other reports are written promptly and following the institutional guidelines.
MAIN TASKS
- Conducts assessments and participates in the design and setup of agriculture, livestock, fishery and food security projects.
- Facilitates their implementation and monitoring of the projects listed above.
- Is the focal point for all technical matters related to agriculture, livestock, fishery and food security.
- Independently establishes, maintains and develops contacts with various high-level interlocutors.
- Contributes to the understanding of the general economic security situation of displaced families, returnees and host communities.
- Provides support to other economic security programmes.
- Writes reports and establishes statistical data according to institutional procedures.
- Performs administrative works.
- Provides oral and written translation.
REQUIRED PROFILE
A successful candidate will have:
- University degree in agronomy, crop physiology, livestock, and/or fishery.
- Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in agriculture, livestock, fishery and food security.
- Experience and knowledge of agriculture, livestock, fishery and food security assessment methodologies.
As an asset, the successful candidate may also:
- Have good knowledge and understanding of humanitarian issues.
- Have good analytical, communication and networking skills.
- Willingness to travel and spend time in the regions in various parts of the country
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Very good computer skills
- Very good knowledge of the geographically assigned environment and communities.
- Driving licence.
