Main Purpose |
|
Providing psychological and psychosocial support according to MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to provide the most appropriate mental health support for patients in detention and victims of violence, SGBV and torture. |
Accountabilities |
|
· Carrying out individual and group-counselling and develop and implement psychosocial and psychoeducation activities for migrants in detention, survivors of violence, SGBV and torture
- Identifying further urgent needs of the patients and refer accordingly
· Developing materials for and taking active part in trainings, supporting the activities of the Psychologist Supervisor/Mental Health Activity Manager when necessary, to address stigmatization of people with mental health problems
· Maintaining the network and cooperating closely with the medical team, other relevant medical actors, institutions and other NGOs that are involved in psychosocial support activities
· Providing written reports, keeping records of activities, filing and documentation and ensuring the data collection
· Ensure a mental health perspective in discussions / meetings about (medical) activities and patients.
· Following the Code of Ethics for Mental Health Professionals and ensuring that all patient related information is kept confidential

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities |
|
- Carrying out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment in the different activities including OPD consultation, mobile clinics and other facilities that could be required in Bani Walid and surroundings.
- Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions. It could be necessary to adapt the environment of the consultations in order to preserve the confidentiality of the patient, since often the consultations don’t take place in a consultation room.
- Assisting and training staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities.
- Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities. After the collection of the data it should be sent to the Psychologist Supervisor/Medical Referent in Misrata and the Medical Activity Manager in Bani Walid.
- Informing the Psychologist Supervisor in Misrata and the Medical Activity Manager in Bani Walid about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical/MH perspective.
- Informing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient’s condition. Every referral should be validated by the Psychologist supervisor and the Medical Activity Manager before referring to other facilities or professionals.
- Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential.
- Ensure a weekly communication with the Psychologist Supervisor based in Misrata and immediately for severe or complicated cases.
- Attends applicable meetings and/or trainings
- Ensures a good communication and sharing of the information about patients and context with MAM, Mental Health team, Protection team and Medical Referent in order to have an holistic management of the patients.
- Conducts a follow-up of the patients in OPD and the ones referred to other structures/facilities and ensures a complete understanding from the patient, using a translator when necessary to ensure a good communication.
- Regular visits to Misrata could be required to ensure a good communication and collaboration between the team based in Misrata and the team in Bani Walid.
- Ensure an adequate and regular communication (weekly) with the Psychologist supervisor based in Misrata communicating the activities, difficulties, challenges, achievements, etc and be proactive proposing improvements
- Attend in a flexible way to other activities proposed by the line manager

Essential degree or diploma in Psychology |
Experience |
Essential : 2 years’ experience minimum as a Psychologist
Desirable: previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries |
Languages |
Essential: English and Arabic
Desirable: French and/or Tigrinya / Somali |
