Job Description

Office/Unit/Project Description:

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Communications Specialist, the Communication Associate acts as the liaison with local communication officers of UNDP counterparts in Libya, as well as local media and local suppliers to promote public and media outreach and mobilize support and buying-in of UNDP activities in Libya among the institutions and the general public.

The incumbent will work in close cooperation with the Digital Communication Officer, local reporters and service providers, as well as, the country office programme staff, the UN system (including the UN Communications Group), government counterparts, development partners, civil society organizations (including cultural and faith-based organizations) and the media to ensure internal and external flow of communication and information.

The communication associate supports the implementation of UNDP Libya Communications Unit strategy to increase the standing and awareness among partners, media and the public. The communication associate is the main producer of information and communication in Arabic and is in charge of translating communication products from English to Arabic and vice versa.

2.      Scope of Work: 

• Coordinate field reporters:

  1. Collect the monthly plan from each reporter and track their monthly delivery.
  2. Support in editing the short videos they send and include subtitles in English/Arabic.
  3. Train the local reporters on how to write the articles and how to take the pictures following UNDP guidelines.

• Coordinate with communications focal points from municipalities:

  1. Update weekly Facebook group sharing relevant information.
  2. Update weekly phone Group to keep them motivated and to gain information.
  3. Organize a meeting with two focal points every two weeks.

• Manage Communication Calendar related to events.

• Maintenance of media contact list and photo library

• Collect information, preparation of content for UNDP Libya website in Arabic and the UNSMIL Weekly Integrated Reporting.

• Produce and disseminate among local stakeholders and partners monthly UNDP e-newsletter in Arabic.

• Assist with reviewing of translations, contacts with printers and other suppliers to ensure production.

• Produce results sheets for projects outlining achievements.

• Provide media management and logistics support to events.

• Edit the stories sent by the reporters, including the pictures that will go with the articles.

• Write articles and take photos of events organized by the different programs to publish on UNDP’s website in Arabic.

• Assist in writing other communication documents such as project proposals, donor reports by providing background case and success stories and footages in Arabic.

• Dissemination of information and publications; assistance at public events such as roundtable discussions, press conferences, briefing sessions, interviews.

• Establish and maintain contacts with print and electronic media nationally.

• Daily monitoring, review and record media coverage of UNDP Libya and circulate to relevant authorities.

• Assist in developing and implementing activities and programmes to promote public awareness/knowledge of and access to information and materials.

              3.      Institutional Arrangement

The Communication associate will work uder the guidance and direct supervision of the Communications Specialist within the Communication Unit.

5.      Minimum Qualifications of the Successful NPSA

 

Min. Education requirements Secondary level qualification required;

Bachelors’ Degree or equivalent in Media Relations, Communication/Journalism, Publishing, Public Relations or in a related field will be of added advantage.

Min. years of relevant work experience  A minimum of seven years of relevant experience at the national or international level in public relations, communications or advocacy;

(4 years for Bachelor’s degree holders)

Required  skills  Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization is desirable;

Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, good knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems.

Photography and videography knowledge.

Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud.

Proven ability to shape messages and stories for digital and print media.

Proven ability to work on deadline.

Required Language(s)  Fluency in the English and Arabic languages.
