Summary:

The work schedule for this position is:

Full Time (40 hours per week)

Duties

Under supervision of the Economic/Commercial officer in Libya External Office (LEO), the incumbent monitors and reports on economic, commercial, and trade developments and trends in Libya.  S/he contributes to Post reporting and gathers information for mandated annual reports by monitoring press and social media and reaching out to a wide range of contacts.  As professional analyst and advisor to the U.S. staff in planning, organizing, and administering programs to facilitate the marketing of U.S. goods and services, s/he assists U.S. firms by developing and organizing marketing strategies, including market research and reporting, planning trade events and opportunities, and bringing U.S. and host country business representatives together.  The incumbent analyzes market trends and evaluates market research involving all economic sectors, as prioritized by supervisor.  S/he translates documents as needed and serves as interpreter as needed in meetings.  S/he exercises initiative and resourcefulness in establishing and nurturing contacts 

 

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:  Five to seven years in a specialist field in government, relevant industries, international organizations, NGOs, or the legal field, and that includes work on commercial and/or economic issues, finance, legal issues, protocol (if official correspondence was undertaken), or issues involving governance or government relations.   

JOB KNOWLEDGE:  Optional: Knowledge of U.S. government structure and processes, and U.S. society and values. Knowledge of national and local government and national and local government processes in Libya.  Knowledge of economic and commercial structure and processes in Libya. Knowledge of business culture, political parties, and civil society in Libya. Knowledge of commercial, trade, and finance law. Interviewing skills. Research skills. 

Education Requirements:
    • University (Bachelor’s) degree in economics, international affairsbusiness administration, or law, is required.   
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:  Level 4 (Fluent) speaking, reading, writing English, and Arabic are required. This will be tested 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Ability to use computers, including word processing, excel, and power point.  Ability to search the internet for research purposes.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in (Tripoli, Libya) may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
