Danish Demining Group (DDG) is a Humanitarian Mine Action Unit in the Danish Refugee Council (DRC). The DDG mission is to recreate a safe environment where people can live without the threat of Landmines, Unexploded Ordnances and Small Arms & Light Weapons.
DRC together with DDG, as a single entity – DRC/DDG, opened its operations in Libya in 2011 to respond to the humanitarian needs in the country. Currently DRC/DDG implements activities with a head office in Benghazi in the following Areas of Operations, namely: South of Libya – Sabha office, Western of Libya – Tripoli office and Eastern Libya – Benghazi.
Position’s Description
The overall role of the EORE Operator is to implement EORE activities by providing Risk Education and Awareness activities at community level (individual and group sessions as requested), resulting in reduced risk behavior within ERW affected communities.
Responsibilities and duties
The EORE Operator responsibilities and duties are listed below, and may be revised as necessary.
- Conduct EO Risk Education in targeted communities following the operational plan as prepared;
- Collect data (community information, victims, accidents and any other information relevant to the project) from targeted communities
- Conduct interviews in the community for the purpose of impact/KAP/need assessments.
- Conduct community liaison activities in the targeted communities.
- Support the NTS teams to conduct EORE sessions in targeted locations
- Participate to the organization of public awareness campaign
- Participate in the elaboration, testing and dissemination of Information, Educational and Communication (IEC) materials to support RE activities, including identification of new IEC needs.
- Report to the EORE Officer all needs in equipment and tools identified on the field
- Report any specific problems that jeopardize the activities and participate in finding solutions
- Accurately fill and submit requested reports to the EORE Officer (IMSMA forms for education, accident and victims, and Weekly report). in dates and time that will be specified;
The EORE Operator reports to MRE officer on all matters. The EORE officer will later on, reports to RE/NTS manager.
Essential qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or Social Sciences related fields or secondary school diploma in combination with relevant years of experience;
- Proven skills on teaching/awareness raising sessions and communications;
- Fluency in spoken and written Arabic
- Good knowledge of English (writing and speaking)
Personal Specification / Desirable Experience / Qualities:
- Experience in delivering EORE related awareness sessions
- Experience in working with local communities and authorities;
- Working experience in INGO, community/refugee or migrants context is an asset;
- IT skills; Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel etc.
General Regulations:
- The employee shall follow DRC/DDG instructions on safety, confidentiality and ethical guidelines, including the Code of Conduct and the Humanitarian Accountability Framework.
- Employee should not engage in any other paid activity for any other agency during the DRC/DDG contract period without Country Director’s authorization.
- Employee should not engage in any activity that could harm DRC/DDG or the implementation of any project during the DRC/DDG contract period.
- Employee should not give interviews to the media or publish project-related photos or other material without Country Director’s authorization.
- Employee shall return all borrowed equipment for the project to DRC/DDG after the end of the contract period or upon the Country Director’s request.
