GBV field Officer

Background:

Gender-based violence (GBV) in humanitarian emergencies is a life-threatening issue. GBV impacts survivors’ immediate sexual, physical, and psychological health, and increases the risks of longer-term health problems and social stigma.

Job Purpose:

The officer will be responsible for contributing to the timely and quality implementation of activities, deliver continuous technical coaching, perform monitoring and evaluation of the quality of GBV related work and capacity building of staff who s/he will be working with in GBV prevention and response. The GBV officers will support in the provision of training and supervising GBV social and Community Workers to respond to cases of GBV and ensure effective case management and GBV prevention activities, respectively. They will oversee overseeing the implementation of the GBV program within their designated sites.

 

QUALIFICATION & SKILLS:

  • University Degree in gender Studies, psychology, sociology or Social Work, Master’s degree would be an asset.
  • Fluency in English, Arabic, including writing clear and concise reports.
  • Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in related field. NGO experience is a plus
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, word, power point and outlook)
  • Able to lead, train, supervise, facilitate and motivate GBV Community Workers in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful and supportive manner.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Willing to work in a hardship area.
  • Clear understanding of gender, abuse of power, and issues surrounding violence against women
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, medical ethics, and respect for clients at all times.

  • Perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary and as requested.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Initiate planning for longer-term GBV prevention and response activities, including referral pathway and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain, monitor and measure GBV project implementation and contribute to effective information management on GBV survivors
  • Closely work with case management officer and ensure that staff implement and respect best-practice and international standards in GBV prevention and response.
  • Participate in the design of project activities, monitoring systems and capacity building activities for partners and community member.
  • Assist GBV team in the development and testing of Behavior Change Communication (BCC) materials on GBV and violence prevention for the communities.
  • Oversee awareness raising activities and support the development of messaging.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including partners, community leaders, CBO and local NGOs and service providers.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including Donors, partner agencies, community structures and service provider
  • Identify and report success stories.
