Position Title: GBV Mobile Social Worker -Benghazi

Position Reports to: Roving GBV Case Manager.

Field Site: Benghazi.

Date Needed: 8th, March 2020.

Essential Job Duties/Scope Of Work:

Under the direct supervision of Roving GBV Case Manager, GBV Mobile Social Workers (MSW) will be responsible for providing case management service to GBV survivors and facilitate the safe referrals to the further services provided by IMC and external service providers. MSWs will also conduct community awareness raising, service mapping for their areas of responsibility and create area-based referral pathways. As a part of the mobile teams, they will work closely with Community Health Workers, Medical Doctors, and PSS Counsellors to ensure the safe referrals and timely response as well as to conduct joint community outreach.

Under the direct supervision of Roving GBV Case Manager:

Case Management:

  • Provide professional and confidential case management services to GBV survivors in line with IMC’s Minimum Standards.
  • Document client information by filling the consent and intake forms on GBV Information Management System + (GBVIMS+), and ensure confidential and safe data storage.
  • Ensure case files of the clients on GBVIMS+ is accurately updated.
  • Create area-based service mapping and develop safe referral pathways and mechanisms both internally with medical and MHPSS departments and externally with other service providers (cash assistance, livelihood, safe space activities, legal aid, child protection).
  • Attend weekly case discussion meetings held with Roving GBV Case Manager and GBV Specialist.
  • Attend regular coordination meetings with medical and mental health departments to strengthen the holistic case management approach at the field level.
  • Identify concerns related to and support adherence to GBV referral protocols and GBV guiding principles and share findings with Roving GBV Case Manager.
  • Ensure the phones and tablets used for case management purposes are always charged, have enough credit, and maintained safely all the time.
  • Ensure no confidential information are kept on the devices accessible without password protection.
  • Ensure confidential and private space setting for counselling sessions either in the clinics or at an alternative space identified.
  • Be ready to respond on emergency cases when needed.

Capacity Building:

– Support staff capacity building efforts and assist Roving GBV Case Manager for delivering technical trainings for the non-specialized workers on GBV, GBV referral pathways and mechanisms, and safe reporting and data storage.

Outreach, Community Engagement, and Coordination:

  • Work closely with CHWs to map the outreach areas and conduct joint community awareness sessions on sexual and reproductive health, GBV, and hygiene.
  • Work closely with PSS Counsellors to tailor GBV messages in mental health awareness sessions.
  • Support MHPSS team for men’s and boys’ inclusion in GBV prevention and response in wider catchment areas.
  • Work closely with medical and mental health teams to develop IEC materials GBV messages embedded in.
  • Coordinate with other humanitarian NGOs to conduct awareness sessions for their staff and for the target community visiting their spaces.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Assessment:

  • Provide timely inputs for monthly, quarterly and annual donor reports.
  • Provide inputs in the indicator plans and work plans as needed.
  • Participate when needed in project assessments: surveys, data collection, filling questionnaires and forms, data entry, conducting interviews with key informants, and focus group discussions with beneficiaries.
  • Create a weekly schedule for site visits and outreach activities and share it with the line manager and program department.
  • Share regular progress reports about the achievements and challenges in implementation of the activities with the line manager.

Undertake all other duties that may be requested by the line-manager and that are compatible with the job.

Qualifications:
Essential qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field – law, social work, social sciences, public health, preferred;
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience with social work, legal counselling, or case management in humanitarian or development settings (master’s degree in the mentioned fields can be accepted as 1 year of experience).
  • Experience in participatory approach and community outreach is desired.
  • Clear understanding of gender, abuse of power, violence against women, sexual violence.
  • Understanding of the wellbeing of women and girls, and supporting their healing after the experience of violence.
  • Understanding of case management, psychosocial support and life skills programming to promote survivor healing and recovery.
  • Excellent understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for beneficiaries
  • Commitment to promote women and girls’ rights and stop GBV.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word.
  • Willing to work in hardship areas.
  • Very strong communication skills, with good understanding of relevant cross-cultural and sensitive issues and ability to gain trust and to build relationships with local authorities and new communities.
  • Strict adherence to Humanitarian and Protection Standards, and GBV Guiding Principles, as well as organizational policies including Code of Conduct and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.
  • Positive and professional attitude, including ability to lead and work well in a team setting
  • Strong ability to maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, and work in a difficult environment.
  • Flexible with working hours.
  • Strong analytical skills and able to handle pressure well.
  • Fluency in BOTH Arabic and English required.
