Job Description
Perform counselling and/or education sessions to patients, following different medical and mental health MSF protocols and procedures, in order to improve their psychosocial condition.
Responsibilities
- Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic and administrative needs for patients
- Actively promote the availability of counselling services and carry out, individual or in group counseling, basic psycho educational sessions, to patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope.
- Refer patients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary in order to propose the best support available.
- Participate in the creation of any material needed for counseling activities and look after it,
- Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other counselors, preserving confidentiality
- Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.
- Take active part in trainings, supervisions/intervisions and support the activities manager when necessary in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health /psychosocial issues.
- Discuss difficulties and problems in counselling with supervisor.
- Conduct individual psychotherapy sessions, including first assessment, based on individual need and abilities on the detainees according to MSF protocol and framework implemented in the detention centers with acute psychiatric disorders, or who are at psychiatric risk obtain appropriate functioning and prevent relapse in.
- Conduct psycho therapeutically group support and group therapy sessions activities including parenting guidance, group discussion, group education, and PFA group sessions.
- Provide MH activities to communities and other facilities where MSF intervenes in the field under the supervision of the line manager.
- Refer the critical cases and detainees in risk of suicide or self-harm to the psychiatrists professional in al Rayyan clinic, including safety and risk assessment plan.
- Manage of detainees at risk, detainees are to be screened and assessed for risk of self-harm or suicide upon first contact.
- Support the work of the Tb, COVID19 and other medical programs supported by MSF by providing, trainings, creating materials, and performing any other relevant MH activity that results in an increase of the quality of care for our beneficiaries.
- Provide Psychological First Aid for people who have been recently exposed to critical situations.
- Provide MH services for TB department by:
- Raising awareness among the community and the patients about TB.
- Supporting the patients during the treatment about consequences of TB throw adherence consoling.
- Work in cooperation with the HA department by:
- Follow up on individual cases, flagged by HA Department for further MH assistance
- refer individual cases in need of protection to the HA Department for follow up from their side, while ensuring follow up support from MH side as well
- Regular exchange with HA Department to reflect on the interdepartmental cooperation and possibly adjust measures of cooperation, like e.g. the information flow according to the needs.
- Identify and report to the MHAM and the MFP about beneficiaries with urgent Mental Health problems that require an emergency referral.
- Ensure proper Data collection of MH activities by keeping our physical and electronic registers up to date.
- Respecting patients, work ethics, colleagues, management and framework put in place by MSF in the project.
- Attend the regular individual clinical supervision, case discussions and general group meetings.
- Respect the consoler code of conduct.
- Ensuring all the files patients is kept confidential.
- All tasks and duties related Tripoli project operations which’s requests by MHAM.
Reporting
- Manage patient’s files and statistics according to MSF protocol and maintain it updated.
- Reporting to supervisor critical cases and cases which need specific intervention.
Minimum Requirements and Competencies
Education
Essential: Counseling, social work, psychology or other similar degree/diploma.
Expereince
1 year experience essential. Experience with NGO desirable.
Languages
Essential: Arabic is essential.
Desirable: English and other African languages are desirable.
Competencies
Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
