40  hours per week on assignment
starting as soon as possible, for one year with potential for renewal.

RNW Media helps people speak freely, have conversations about what really matters to them – both personally and politically – and find the information they need to make their own choices about their future.  RNW Media is active in China and in countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Arab world.

The Junior online editor will be working closely with the website editor and content team to write, edit and/or publish online content on hunalibya.com. The junior online editor reports to Country Coordinator and will functionally work closely with the content strategist at the main office in Hilversum. The Junior online editor will be part of a dedicated team, consisting of the project coordinator, online editor, social media editor, moderator, designer, and video editor. The Huna Libya extended team also includes a number of contributors, vloggers, video makers, cartoonists and writers for the website and social media pages.

About Huna Libya:
Huna Libya is a youth platform for blogging and new media in Libya, powered by RNW Media. Huna Libya seeks to create a safe space for healthy dialogue among young Libyans in all their intellectual, political and ethnic backgrounds, for an interconnected and open society. In addition, Huna Libya is working on encouraging change makers and influencers to communicate their voices and visions and to express their future aspirations. Huna Libya also publishes weekly inspiring success stories of young Libyans seeking change.

What you will do: 

  • Develop and facilitate regular content on the website to support projects goals for social change
  • Commission contributors to produce content for website; Coordinate invoices and payments for freelancers and contributors on the platforms
  • Edit articles and other content from contributors in line with editorial policies
  • Maintain and post articles in the Content Management System
  • Work with the thematic content strategist to develop and implement project specific content strategy
  • Maximize the performance and impact of the website to reach annual target and KPI’s
  • Create weekly/monthly content performance reports using Google Analytics
  • Set agenda and participate in editorial meetings to discuss, review past articles and brainstorm for upcoming themes and events;
  • Coordinate content and themes with the social media editor;
  • Other responsibilities assigned by project coordinator related to content

What you need to have: 

  • Recognize the mission and vision of RNW Media professionally and personally; feel comfortable on the sensitive topics of program RNW Media is working on in different regions;
  • Must have an affinity with and knowledge about our young audience (18-30);
  • Bachelor or Master in journalism, communications or related equivalent studies;
  • Minimal 3 years’ proven working experience in online journalism; editing and producing content; in Arabic
  • Experience in using Google Analytics;
  • Technical skills to work efficiently on CMS like WordPress
  • Good presentation and communication skills;
  • Ability to manage a network freelancers and contributors;
  • Ability to keep up strict and at times tight deadlines.
  • Practical and result- oriented mindset;
  • Ability to work efficiently with remote teams
  • Excellent Arabic language, writing and editorial skills, and a good working knowledge of English.
  • Adequate knowledge of SEO would be appreciated;
  • This position in based in Libya

What do we offer?
The assignment is for 40 hours per week with a contract for one year, subject to renewal. Fee is based on experience and expertise.
