Purpose :
Perform counselling and/or education sessions to patients, following different medical and mental health MSF protocols and procedures, in order to improve their psychosocial condition
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevent complication of diseases. Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF
- Keep the patient informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, and ensuring they have understood.
- Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits, consultations and examinations, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred – in collaboration with clinic doctors/ consultants.
- Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care of the quality of the drugs and medical material. Assure general compliance with hygiene standards.
- Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and making pertinent analysis on a monthly basis.
- Participate in the monthly medical reporting.
- Informs the MTL about any problem or complication of the patients illness, medical errors and monitors as a team member the proper functioning of the team’s activities.
- Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team to optimize the quality of care.
- Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times, reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control measures.
- Ensures professional confidentiality is respected at all times.
- Fully participate in all team work during the mobile clinics according to MSF HR policies and procedures, participate in the organisation of activities and directly participating in emergencies and on calls when assigned to.
- Respect clinical case definition at all times during consultations and apply rational drug use in relation to diagnostic and treatment.
- Participate in all activities during the mobile clinic according to task division (triage, distribution, consultations,follow-up, emergency response, referrals, clinical interventions such as dressings, vaccination, etc.)
- Respect referral policy criterias and protocol at all times when assigned to be referral doctor. Keep referral data tool updated with referrals done during his time of responsability.
- Perform the requested task as weekly medical focal point during mobile clinics (security responsible, communication with DC management, liaison with all team, planning of MC and team’s departure)
- Perform any additional duties when asked by supervisor
- For temporary replacement, the doctor may be assigned to other position
Specific ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- To support specific RH activities available in the mobile clinic including working at the DCs, disembarkation and primary health clinics
- ANC, PNC (incl. breastfeeding and EPI) and PMTCT, identify complicated cases and do referrals as necessary (IPD or OPD)
- SGBV program: treatment of patients, sensitizing the community and overall expansion of program
- Training and informing of other medical staff members about RH protocol and activities within project.
- To support the implementation of SGBV program
- Work to develop the program recently put in place—supporting targeted health messages, awareness raising for SGBV care and PMTCT.
- Facilitate regular trainings for staff to increase sensitization and awareness.
- Provide proper care according to MSF standards. Ensure confidentiality when a case is identified.
- Ensure implementation of the RH component in the mobile clinic in the detention centers according to MSF standard.
- Supporting awareness of complications in pregnancy, postnatal care and children signs of danger, breastfeeding and health promotion.
- Support the national staff midwives with skills and knowledge training
- To work in close collaboration with the Mental Health team, MTL and HAO in order to ensure a regular monitoring of patients flagged and/or in needs of mental health support, in relation to all maternal and child care activities.
Minimum Requirements and Competencies
Education:
Essential: Medical Doctor Diploma with Valid License
Education:
2 year experience minimum as a Medical Doctor. Desirable experience in tropical medicine, Public Health, obsgyn, paediatrics, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS/STDs, TB, general practice, and minor surgery.
Languages:
Essential: English and Arabic Essential
Desireable: French
