JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT-
INTERPRETER
Medicines Sans Frontieres (MSF) is a non-profit international organization providing assistance to populations in distress, victims of natural or man-made disasters and victims of armed conflict. MSF does so irrespective of gender, race, religion, creed or political convictions.
MSF has been in Libya since 2011 and is carrying out activities for migrants in Misrata.
Workplace: Nafusa mountain/Yefren, Libya, and the surrounding communities.

Main purpose
Verbal interpretation, in person or remotely, during daily medical activities (consultations, interviews, meetings, etc.) and written translations, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, in order to ensure accurate, respectful, fluent and confidential communication between medical staff and the local population.
Responsibilities
- Provide face to face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary.
- Inform medical staff about any local customs, traditions, important cultural nuances that will help to understand better the context during a meeting, medical consultation or interview with local people or detainees.
- Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners.
- Translate MSF internal/external documents into the local language as requested.
- Keep a record of all translated documents.
- Look after all equipment provided, i.e. dictionaries or other books that belong to MSF.
- Ensure confidentiality and medical secrecy of all translation is maintained.
- Participate in any other related activities as requested by the line manager.
Requirements:
Education: Essential secondary education, university degree desirable, health knowledge advisable.
Experience: Desirable: previous experience working in a health care facility or with a medical organization or with a psychosocial organization
Languages: Essential: English and Arabic.
Highly desirable: French
Asset: Hausa, Tigrinya, Somali

WORK DETAILS
Intended start date: ASAP
Working hours: 48 hours per week – 1 day rest.
