Position Reports to: Medical Doctor.

 

Job Summary:

Midwife will act as a mentor to midwives and nursing staff at the targeted PHC facilities to improve their knowledge and capacity in providing reproductive health services generally and Antenatal Care nursing and midwifery services specifically at PHC level, IMC midwife will assist in filling any gaps in reproductive health services and will support ANC-OPD at the targeted PHC facility during the
period of the project.

Main Tasks:

The Midwife is required to provide mentoring and training to the staff of PHCCs regarding the basics of midwifery and the rules of midwife in providing reproductive health services at the PHC level, in addition to this, tasks of midwife include the following:

  • Examining and monitoring pregnant women 5 days /week from 9:00 to 17:00.
  • Assessing care requirements and writing care plans.
  • Undertaking antenatal care.
  • Carrying out screening tests.
  • Taking patient samples, pulses, temperatures and blood pressures as needed.
  • Mentoring staff about Caring for and assisting women in labor (in case labor services are available).
  • Mentoring staff about Monitoring and administering medication, injections and intravenous infusions during labor (In case labor services are available).
  • Mentoring staff about Monitoring the fetus during labor (in case labor services are available or emergency child birth).
  • Advising about and supporting parents in the daily care of their newborn babies and providing
    information, emotional support and reassurance to women and their partners.
  • Helping parents to cope with miscarriage, termination, stillbirth and neonatal death.
  • Writing patients records accurately as needed.
  • Provide technical support and oversight to MOH health team during patient care and service delivery.
  • Referral of patients to and between hospitals/healthcare facilities.
  • Collaborate with the team leader and medical coordinator in sending orders for periodic re-stocking.
  • Work with M&E team to ensure accuracy and quality of data collected from all
    hospital/healthcare facilities on a monthly basis.
  • Conduct monthly data analysis and take action as appropriate in cooperation with supervisor.
  • Provide training to healthcare (nurses) personnel for specific needs.
  • Works as a member of the team, taking in consideration the non-medical problems encountered by the patients (i.e. feeding and psychosocial).
  • Develop and foster professional working relationship with community members and technical
    counterparts of healthcare facilities.
  • Conduct home visits according to plans prepared by medical team and approved by supervisor.
  • Follow up with target groups such as pregnant/lactating women, children less than 5 years old
    especially with regard to utilization and access to antenatal services.
  • Conduct triage and initial patient assessment prior to referral to the medical doctor.
  • Ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Provide weekly reports regarding beneficiaries visited.
  • Perform regular health education sessions for beneficiaries.
  • Submit daily and weekly drug consumption report including: notify medical doctor of drug stock and expiry dates of drugs.
  • Attend program meetings as scheduled.
  • Actively participate in activity planning.
  • Assist other program staff whenever needed.
  • Provide awareness sessions and short lectures to nurses, nurse assistants and technicians about the duties of midwife and encourage those who want to be trained further about midwifery in order to be trained further in the discipline.
  • Any other responsibility assigned by his/her supervisor.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

  • Registered midwife or registered nurse, with diploma or relevant experience on midwifery.
  • At least 3 years’ clinical experience.
  • Able to provide treatment and assistance to all individuals needing his/her care.
  • Leader ship qualities and ability to provide lectures and training sessions is highly desirable.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to work in resource limited settings, especially peripheral areas in Libya.
  • Able to provide feedback/reports regarding work -related activities.
  • Able to speak in Arabic, English desirable.

Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.
Any other duties that may be assigned from time by supervisors.
