Objectives of the programme:

The field of activity of the division involves working with the WHO Representative and the Ministries of Health, Information/Communications to enhance the development and implementation of Health Promotion programmes and activities for addressing the broad determinates of health; strengthening and implementing the public information and literature services for the WHO Technical Program of Cooperation; providing technical support to the WHO country team and attending meetings and preparing reports required.

Purpose of the position:

Under the guidance and supervision of WHO Representative, the incumbent acts as a specialist in health promotion and serves as a link between WHO and the Ministry of health in matters related to health promotion.

Summary of assigned duties:

• Serve as WHO focal point within the network of key partners in organizations collaborating with WHO on strengthening national capacity for health promotion
• Support the mobilization of the public, communities, institutions and agencies to promote health through evidence based strategies
• Strengthen the Country Office public relation activities and contribute to public awareness of the broad determinants of health
• Strengthen Health Literature services at country level, maintain relevant WHO information and provide pertinent documents and materials to partners within and outside WHO.

Educational qualifications:

Essential: A Bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion (or related field) with basic training and/or understanding of Communication (or related field) or a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with basic training and/or understanding of Health Promotion (or related field).

Desirable: Post graduate diploma in related field will be an advantage.

Work experience:

Essential: At least 5 years of proven experience in the field of Health Promotion or health related communication.

Desirable: Experience/training in public health and/or health communication an added advantage. Experience in organizing and executing Health Promotion or Health Communications/Information programmes.

Functional skills:

Excellent knowledge of the Health Promotion process and approaches and/or communication practices; knowledge of national government operations in the area.

Language: Fluency in oral and written Arabic and English languages is required.

3) Respecting and promoting individual and cultural differences
Other skills: Computer literacy: word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
