Job description

Overview of position Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Under the overall guidance of the Migration Health Officer and direct supervision of the Field Health Coordinator in the team and close coordination with municipality team, the incumbent is responsible for assisting the Health Unit in provision of comprehensive nursing care services based on identified priorities and needs outlined by the IOM Libya Health unit.

The incumbent will provide the professional assistance to the medical doctors in the context of provision of medical support and care to the migrants.

Role objectives
  • Provide nursing care, treatment and follow-up for patients according to doctors’ advice and prescription.

     

  • Assist medical doctors during consultations and other medical procedures; like dressing, stitching or stabilizing critically ill patients.

     

     

  • Conduct regular medical visits to assigned locations according to plans prepared by health unit supervisors.

     

  • Provide close medical care and follow up to target groups such as pregnant/lactating women, seriously ill cases, unaccompanied admitted critically ill patients and children less than 5 years old especially.

     

  • Provide emergency medical services to beneficiaries as per emergency on call schedule.

     

  • Accompany patients and provide them with assistance during their transportation or referral to hospitals.

     

  • Conduct triage and initial patient assessment prior to being examined by medical doctors.

     

  • Ensure that infection prevention and control mechanisms are in place and followed at the points of service provision.

     

  • Help in development and organization of the registration system and documentation of the patients.

     

  • Ensure the confidentiality of the medical information of IOM beneficiaries.

     

  • Attend scheduled program meetings organized by the unit

     

  • Assist other project staff whenever needed and any other responsibility assigned by the supervisor

Team management  
Further information
  • At least 3 years of previous clinical experience at hospitals/health facilities

     

  • Experience in the context of humanitarian situations; and experience of working within the health system of Libya would be preferred.

     

  • Experience in assisting the health services for migrants, refugee and displaced persons and other vulnerable groups; including early recovery or post crisis emergency health programming would be an added advantage

     

  • Experience of organizing community outreach medical services would be advantageous

     

  • Experience in liaising with government authorities would be preferred
