  1. Organization Overview

The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) is a non-profit organization that has worked for over 30 years in more than 100 countries to promote the rule of law, advance human rights, strengthen judicial institutions, support legal professionals, and advance understanding of the law and rights of citizens. To this end, ABA ROLI has established partnerships with a wide range of actors, including institutions in the justice sector, civil society organizations, bar associations, legal aid organizations and lawyers, among others.

The candidate will be supporting an ABA ROLI program implemented in Libya. The individual will work in a team environment, coordinating with multiple stakeholders and headquarters staff to ensure successful implementation of all program activities.

  1. Position Overview

The Program Assistant (PA) is responsible for supporting the Program Manager leading technical and programmatic activities. The individual supports through logistics, training and event management, and collects program data that supports monitoring and evaluation (M&E) reporting of program indicators and targets.

The PA will support a program focused on strengthening Libyan capacities to develop and implement inclusive reconciliation initiatives, rights protections, and justice processes that promote sustainable peace in Libya. The PA will support activities designed to strengthen the capacity and role of CSOs to actively participate in and strengthen rights, justice, and reconciliation initiatives at the local and national levels.

 

  1. Responsibilities
  • Works closely with all programmatic team members to support program implementation through coordination of activities and logistics;
  • Supports the planning of events and meetings, securing venues and supplies and supporting participants to ensure attendance;
  • Coordinate logistics for travel, meetings, and events;
  • Collects program information and data (program documents, participants lists, minutes of meetings), using ABA ROLI’s information management platforms;
  • Drafts information to be used in weekly, monthly and periodic reporting (i.e. quarterlies);
  • Assists senior program staff with data collection, verification, and reporting;
  • Identifies and synthesize good practices and lessons learned;
  • Ensures that activity logistics are implemented in accordance with program documents and procedures in close collaboration with the CD and the M&E officer;
  • Supports or leads procurement processes for services, supplies, vendors, and consultants, to be used in program trainings and events;
  • Coordinates with subgrantees to collect activity implementation data and reporting information (written reports and budgeting);
  • Coordinates closely with administrative assistant, operations and compliance manager and security manager on all event logistics to ensure adherence to ABA ROLI’s policies;
  • Works closely with the financial team to ensure all event and logistics procurements are in compliance with ABA ROLI’s policies;
  • Responsible for maintenance of all hard and e-copies of program files;
  • Any other duties as assigned.

 

  1. Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in law, political or social sciences, development, or related field is required;
  • One to two years of demonstrated experience supporting programs and/or activities related to law, human rights, democratic processes, or other related areas;
  • Experience working in a team, coordinating activities, trainings, events and logistics supporting program objectives;
  • Knowledge of work plans and monitoring and evaluation of program results;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to travel on work assignments to support program activities;
  • Excellent Excel, Word and Power Point skills;
  • Fluent Arabic and English language required.
