DRC Libya is looking to recruit a qualified, flexible professional to work in Yefren as General Protection Assistant. Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader, and in close coordination with other DRC Protection teams and field units, the Protection Assistant will participate in the implementation of all DRC’s protection objectives for Libyan and non-Libyan conflict and displacement affected populations. The Assistant is an active member of the protection field team, involved in different field-based activities (Household interviews, KII, FGDs, observation missions, site visits etc.) as well as delivery of specialized protection and humanitarian assistance. This includes implementation of case management processes from intake to closure: identification, assessment, case planning, using referral pathways, providing IPA and counselling. The position coordinates with other team members to ensure best implementation of activities, monitoring and data collection, so as to ensure quality and efficiency of the overall protection programme.
Programming & Operations
- Under the supervision of the Protection Team leader, carry out effective protection monitoring activities with efficiency and according to the agreed work plan.
- Proficiently understand and utilize the protection monitoring tools (including FGD, KII, and site observation forms) used to carry out protection monitoring activities.
- Monitor and share trends for analysis of the protection situation and environment in all areas of intervention for all groups of concern for management, program, and advocacy purposes.
- Implement DRC’s protection monitoring activities ensuring timely delivery of the agreed outputs, in accordance to international standards and flexible and respond to emergencies and influx through participating in rapid protection assessments, joint assessments, protection analysis etc. to identify protection concerns and needs and act for response.
- Constantly monitor the provision of services in areas of operation, and report on findings to ensure highest level of access to services.
- Mobilize and build strong rapport with both host and migrant communities through consistent engagement, adhering to dignified, safe, and culturally sensitive approaches.
- In coordination with the Protection Officer, conduct service mapping of international and local actors.
- Implement proper case management steps to identify protection cases and support them through a durable and sustainable approach.
- Carry out information dissemination and awareness raising activities among IDP, migrant and refugee communities.
Coordination and representation
- Represent DRC to the communities including community focal points, persons of concern and other relevant stakeholders as delegated by the Protection Team Leader and/or Officer.
- In coordination with the Protection Team Leader and Officer, represent DRC to a range of stakeholders including individual beneficiaries and community groups, humanitarian agencies, services providers, local authorities, etc. To this end, ensure professional standards and transparent communication to build trust and collaboration with concerned stakeholders.
- Ensure that interactions by staff with individual beneficiaries and commumnity groups take place in environments and in ways that respect and promote safety, agency and dignity in accordance with professional standards for protection and humanitarian work
- Collaborate with the MEAL teams in carrying monitoring, evaluation and feedback activities within the target areas.
- Ensure proper use of tools and online platforms provided for effective reporting information management as relevant.
- Document all steps of the case management properly using standardized tools and SOPs.
Operations support
- Support the coordination of programme activities as they relate to logistics, administration, finance, or security as relevant, in coordination with the relevant departments.
- Ensure the compliance of staff with the relevant internal policies and directives.
As well as any other duties as may be assigned by the Protection Manager, relevant to the achievement of Protection objectives.
About you :
- 1 –2 years of professional experience in the field of humanitarian interventions, social work, case management, human rights, civil society, or community development, preferably with an international humanitarian organization.
- Experience working directly with and knowledge of conflict-affected and/or vulnerable groups, including migrant and refugee populations.
- Knowledge of case management process, steps and principles.
- Strong skills in communication and implementing of protection monitoring activities
- Demonstrate reasonable capacity to document, summarize and to share information in a clear and systematic manner.
- Experience in identifying and responding to needs of particularly vulnerable individuals and groups based on field work, protection, age, gender, and diversity analysis and other criteria.
- Demonstrated capacity to effectively represent a humanitarian organization with the individuals and communities and build trust.
- Field-oriented attitude and strong humanitarian spirit.

Moreover, we also expect the following:
- University Degree in the field of social sciences, humanitarian affairs, international law, development or any other related field.
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English
- Basic knowledge of French and other languages will be considered as asset
