The ICRC Delegation in Libya has a vacancy for:
Radio Operator
The position will be based in the Misrata Sub-Delegation (MIR SD)
The Radio Operator operates the ICRC’s telecommunications equipment in MIR SD. S/he maintains radio contact and telecommunications between sites, vehicles and people so that the Sub-delegation can follow field movements in accordance with its programme and with security rules.
Main Responsibilities
- Follows communication and transmission activity via telecommunications equipment.
- Ensures constant contact with people moving in the field and takes appropriate action as stipulated under security rules and internal guidelines.
- Oversees the preparation and follow up of all movement within MIR SD area of responsibility, including within the city of Misrata, where the ICRC has permanent presence.
- Ensures movement planning includes the latest update by all departments and staff members and makes sure all visitors movement are incorporated in the planning.
- Following the latest updated ICRC procedures for conducting field trips in Libya.
- Ensures proper coordination with management and the concerned departments.
- Ensures that all staff members respect communication guidelines during field trips and reports any breach to management.
- Updates the management about arriving/departing of mobile staff by vehicle/planes/vessels as well as their relocation within the MIR SD area of responsibility.
- Liaises and coordinates with the ICRC Radio Room in Tripoli and logistics for the field trips and cargo movement.
- Ensure efficient hand over with the ICRC Radio room in Tripoli of any pending movement after working hours and/or during weekends and public holidays.
- Participates in the general situation analysis and shares any related concerns with management.
- Keeps track of field communication devices or any other IT equipment under his/her responsibility.
- Ensures update of the phone list in close coordination with ICT.
Required background, skills and experience:
- Secondary school or technical/professional school diploma.
- Good command (spoken and written) of English.
- Good computer skills.
- Driving license.
- Vocational training in electronics, telecommunication, IT or similar field an asset.
- Two years’ work experience in a similar field.
- Good knowledge of the area of assignment.
- Some experience working with the ICRC or international organizations an asset.
