Position : Social Media Monitor & Disinformation Analyst-ABA
Location : Libya
Start Date: 1-January-15-August -2022
Background:
As part of the Libya Electoral and Legislative Support Activities (LELSA) implemented with IFES and NDI, ABA is working across Libya to counter hate speech and disinformation (HSD) by promoting media and digital literacy.
Objective:
The Consultant / Social Media Monitor and Disinformation Analyst will carry out daily monitoring shifts to identify reports containing disinformation and hate speech. The sources include conventional Libyan media outlets, influential Facebook groups, and influential Facebook and Twitter accounts. The consultant will coordinate a group of fact checkers and ensure quality control of stories posted on Tahra social media and website page. The consultant will provide expertise on other awareness-raisin efforts.
Deliverables:
The Contractor / Social Media Monitor and Disinformation Analyst will:
- Provide daily monitoring using a database of Libyan conventional media accounts and social media accounts, looking for political-related false news, disinformation, and content with hate speech or content that advocates political violence.
- Monitors and provide guidance to fact-checkers on proposed stories, stories to follow, facts to check.
- Investigate news using a variety of means, combining open-source intelligence tools and human sources.
- Coordinate with social media experts and graphic designer to post stories in English and Arabic on a dedicated Facebook page, along with Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as uploading them on a dedicated website.
- Ensure the respect of the fact checking guidelines by the team.
- Provide expertise and technical advice on the targeted messaging to counter disinformation during the electoral period, including through supporting the publication of guides, reports and video productions aiming to raise awareness on the types and dangers of disinformation and hate speech, using examples relevant to Libyan readers.
Criteria:
- At least 5 years of experience in the Libyan media sector
- Demonstrated knowledge of HSD monitoring, including investigations and reporting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Libyan political landscape, related to the electoral context in particular
- Capacity to work in team and good communications skill.
Payment schedule:
Every month based on a detailed report of activities.
