WASH Engineer in Sabha

The ICRC Delegation in Libya has a vacancy for:
Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Engineer
The position will be based in the Sabha Sub Delegation

In his/her capacity as a Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Engineer (WASH), he/she will be responsible for the assessment, evaluation, elaboration and implementation of ICRC Water & Habitat (Wathab) projects.

Main Responsibilities:

• In line with the Sub-Delegation’s priorities, he/she plans and organizes visits to operational areas and project sites, if need be with overnight stays in the field
• Coordinates his/her field trips with other departments if necessary
• Reports on any occurred issues immediately to his/her superiors
• Interviews authorities, local associations, NGO’s and beneficiaries independently
• Assesses the needs related to water, sanitation, hygiene and “habitat” and collects all relevant information for the implementation of WatHab interventions
• Analyses the collected information and presents the situation
• Elaborates projects based on analysis and in line with Wathab objectives and the Delegation’s priorities
• Submits written project proposals to their technical supervisor (including detailed work description, necessary drawings, cost estimates, etc.)
• Contributes to the preparation and submission of tendering and contract documents if requested
• Monitors project implementation for compliance with project documents, ICRC standards, and local building codes/standards, ensuring corrective action is taken where necessary
• Provide technical assistance to beneficiaries and counterparts when needed
• Monitors and evaluates the project activities regularly
• Ensures that WatHab objectives are respected and in line with the Delegation’s overall objectives and SD’s operational priorities
• Organizes the material deliveries and assures necessary checking of the material and paperwork
• Participates in the evaluation of the program and makes recommendations
• Ensures follow-up of Logistics Supply Chain (contracts, purchases, quality control, stock management, deliveries, etc.)
• Organizes and maintains the filing of all relevant project documents

Required background, skills and competencies:

• Degree in Civil, Hydraulic, Mechanical, Electro-mechanical engineering or any related field
• 3-5 years’ professional experience in hydraulic engineering in the field of water supply or sanitation, experience in the installation of pumps and electro-mechanical basic knowledge is an asset
• Excellent command of written and spoken English and computer skills
• Good knowledge of the geographically assigned environment
• Proficiency in use of Water Modelling Tools, Epanet or similar software
• Experience in use of AutoCAD or equivalent software is an asset
• Good knowledge of project management is a strong asset
