BACKGROUND:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. In response to the situation in Libya, the IRC launched an emergency program in September 2016 which aimed to provide life-saving medical care and integrated protection services. At present, the IRC is implementing health and protection activities in Tripoli and Misurata, while expanding its protection department, with a focus on community-based protection, the rule of law, child protection, GBV, and MHPSS across all its project locations. Recently, the IRC has established a center for psychosocial support activities for women and adolescent girls (WGSS), and for children (SHLS) in Misrata and Tripoli. The IRC’s Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) program has been operational in both Misrata and Tripoli since 2016. The WPE program in both locations provide life-saving services to conflict-affected and displaced women and girls, including gender based violence (GBV) suvivors, IDPS, Migrants  and host community women and girls are provided with a safe space to access case management and psychosocial support and to attenskills-building and socio-economic empowerment activitie. The IRC also works through local women led organizations and is in the process of identifying more CSOs to channel through its protection programming especially about women protection and empowerment.

 

 Job Overview/Summary: under the supervision of the WPE officer the Case Worker will work as part of WPE Team and will be responsible for providing direct case management and psychosocial services, including group-based psychosocial activities through WGSS service delivery units to displaced women and girls and survivors of GBV.

Major RESPONSIBILITIES: The WPE Case  Worker shall:

  • Provide age-appropriate case management to survivors of GBV, including assessment of client needs; basic crisis counseling; supporting clients in developing a plan to address their individual needs and safely implementing this plan; support to clients in pursuing services from other service providers as per clients’ wishes
  • Provide services to adolescent girl survivors of GBV, including case management, age appropriate engagement and decision-making by survivors, Do No Harm analysis, and safety planning
  • Provide group psychosocial support to women and girls; facilitate sessions focused on building awareness of different themes related to their wellbeing, safety planning, and deliver key messages on GBV
  • Provide essential information on available services and support survivors in navigating the referral pathways and accessing services
  • Participate in facilitatingthe Girl Shine Curriculum, Women Riase and the Arab Wome Speak Out Curriculum and anyother behaviour change strategies that the IRC WPE team may adopt for its programming.
  • Lead age-appropriate and specialized group emotional services for adolescent girls through identified or established safe spaces.
  • Carry out community outreach and awareness raising on available services and key messages on GBV
  • Identify concerns related to and support adherence to GBV referral protocols and GBV guiding principles, and bring these concerns to the WPE
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders including community leaders and other humanitarian partners and service providers.
  • Document all program and client activity in an accurate and timely manner using standardized tools and forms
  • Complete weekly and monthly activity reports, according to guidance provided by the WPE Senior Officer Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure successful implementation of WPE emergency response plan.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: the WPE Case  Worker position will directly report to the WPE Officer

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Gender Studies, etc.) and atleast 1 year of relevant experience
  • Experience in counseling, social work, women’s health, or other related field
  • Clear understanding of and interest in the wellbeing of women and girls, and supporting their healing after the experience of violence
  • Understanding of case management, psychosocial support and life skills programming to promote survivor healing and recovery
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients
  • Positive and professional attitude, including ability to lead and work well in a team setting
  • Strong ability to maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, and work in a difficult environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills (team work, listening, good communication and good listening)
  • Ability to work as team
  • Good English and Arabic language (Written and Spoken)
